INTRODUCTION
Samoa Farmers Association started in 2006 as the Samoa Crops Cooperation Association (SCCA). The name of the association was recently changed to Samoa Farmers Association to more correctly reflect the organization’s membership and farming interests. Today SFA has a membership of 1419 registered individual farmers and 20 farmer groups with a total membership of over 700 farming families.
The majority of members are smallholder village based farmers that form the bulk the 28,119 or so farming families identified in the 2015 Agricultural census. Many farm mainly for subsistence although increasingly looking to enhance their income stream from agriculture. SFA A small but growing number of members look on farming as a business, a development which the Samoan government promotes to revive agriculture
